From Crystal Motor Speedway
Crystal, MI — (April 18, 2015) — Scott Baker picked up the Late Model feature victory on C&L Trucking opening night Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway. A.J. Ward, Nate Jones, Curtis Rice, Joel Fields, and Shellbie Shank also picked up feature wins with 128 cars in the pit area.
The first feature of the 2015 was the Pro Stock division that saw Mike VanderMark, Jr grab the opening lead and slowly pull away. VanderMark was off to what seemed like an easy win when something went awry in his machine and he pulled into the infield, handing the lead over to Jake Headley. Headley held tight for several laps before being overtaken by Nate Jones. Jones went on to out duel Don Rohn for the first feature winner of the season. Headley came home third, followed by Ken O’Connor , Gary Buskirk, Jaycee Baker, Nick Stormzand, Josh Loomis, Jeramie Raby, and VanderMark, Jr.. Jones and Rohn put heat heats in their career stat books.
Zack Olger grabbed the lead out of the gate in the Late Model feature and looked to be on his way to a good finish when he suddenly pulled to the infield with mechanical issues. Last years division champion, Scott Baker, took the lead and went on to hold off all comers as he began his march to repeat for the championship. He was followed by Steve Fairbanks, Joshua Knoll, Scott Philips, Garrett Wiles, Kris Patterson, Jr., Tom Dusen, Logan Love, Josh Borton, and Amanda Wing. B Main wins went to Kyle Borgman and Love while heats wins were racked up by Doug Baird, Borton, and Patterson Jr.
In the Pro Truck division, Andrew Fidler lead the early going, followed closely by Curtis Rice and Paul Grosnickle. As they came into the final laps, Fidler began to get heavy pressure from Rice and the two battled side by side for several laps before Rice finally over took him for the lead and then the win in an exciting finish. Fidler came home second, followed by Grosnickle, Mickey Currier, Bree Brasington, Dave Peters, James McKeown, Jim Emmons, Blake Doolittle, and Shane Spencer. Fidler and Grosnickle garnered heat gold.
Robert Putt took the early point in the IMCA Modified feature with Brody Bowser tight behind. A. J. Ward and Bowser tangled, sending Bowser to the rear. Ward overtook the lead and cruised on to take the win over John DeYoung, Jr., Robert Putt, Joe Fowler, Brenten DeYoung, Vern Buskirk, Gary VanderMark, Corey Ruesink, Brody Bowser, and Ken Zeigler. Brady Hollenbeck and VanderMark took B Main wins with Bowser, DeYoung, and Ward all taking heat wins.
The Street Stock feature came down to a battle between Joel Field and James Prochazka with Field finally going on to take the win in an exciting finish. Eric Lake brought home a third, followed by Doug McKeown, Sr., Dennis Parker, Jeramy Craigmyle, Christina Haney, Tony Vinton, Travis Carman, and Cody Broersma. Troy Goodrich and Field were heat winners.
The Flinn Stock division featured a power battle between Shelbie Shank and Brian Hammond as they ran nose to tail most of the feature. Hammond began a furious challenge with just three laps to go and almost over took Shank but she held him back and went on to clinch the win. Hammond was second, followed by Allen Roszell, Kevin Rohn, Jr., Taylor Runions, Spencer Simon, Benjamin Nott, Justin Stahl, Matt Stadt, and Brent Leadford. Shank and Runions took heat wins.
